Stability and Preservation

eSwab® preserved the viability of all the organisms tested for 48 hours at both controlled room and refrigerated temperature, except for Neisseria gonorrhoeae cultures which should be processed within 24 hours. It can be used for the preservation of bacterial, viral or Chlamydial antigens and nucleic acids from swab spedimens for five days when stored at room temperature, 7 days if stored at 4°C and up to 6 months when stored at -20° C.

Southern African Journal of Infectious Diseases 2017 – Gumede L. et al.

To ensure the preservation and an acceptable isolation rate of N. gonorrhoeae from urethral discharge specimens, Copan eSwabs® should be transported and maintained at refrigerator temperatures, and must reach the processing laboratory by at least 120 h (5 days) after collection.

Discover

Journal of Clinical Microbiology 2017 – Silbert S. et al.

The BD Max StaphSR assay and culture displayed an excellent overall agreement for the detection of MRSA (99.2%) and S. aureus (96.8%) from eSwab®-collected wound samples.

Discover

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease 2020 – Saliba R. et al.

To our knowledge, this study is the first to study the effect of Freeze/Thaw cycles and prolonged freezing of eSwab® liquid on the viability of aerobic bacteria. Optimal results are obtained when the eSwab® liquid is aliquoted and stored at -80 °C.

Discover

Journal of Microbiological Methods 2015 – Avolio M. et al.

The eSwab® fulfilled the CLSI acceptance criteria of viability maintenance for all microorganisms tested at T0, T24 and T48 timepoints. Under the storage condition evaluated, the Copan eSwab® has shown a better recovery capability than Σ-Transwab device.
